  1. Title: How to stop smoking
    Evaluator: Kweonho Lee
    Date: 5/28

    Speech value: 5
The speaker had confidence in his voice and he looked very comfortable with giving the speech. Pauses were appropriate and his volume and tone were all good. I was able to understand most of his words.

    Preparation 4
The contents had sufficient information and the organization of the speech was clear. The speaker had interesting openings with a pack of cigarettes in his hand. Also, he delivered his speech without using notes.

    Organization 4
The speaker had three main points with an opening and conclusion. The speaker introduced his four points one by one by using transitions. I liked how he briefly summarized his points in the last part.

    Opening 4
The opening was interesting as he introduced his topic with a surprising fact about smoking. Also, he used a few rhetorical questions to raise more interests.

    Body 4
During the explanation, the speaker had specific examples, opinions from doctors, and his own experience related to the topic which all supported his main points well.

    Conclusion 4
The speaker finished his presentation with a hope that his information would be helpful for the audience.
    Transitions 4
Used transitions whenever he moved on to her next points by using “first, then, another thing, so..”

What could the speaker have done differently to make the speech more effective?
The topic of the presentation was interesting and the contents were well prepared. I’m sure the presentation would have been much more effective if he had used some visual aids during the presentation. Because the contents had some numbers such as percentage of those who quit smoking, the speaker may have used charts to visually show the significance of the number. Also, his organization and main points would be more explicit and clear to the audience by having some of the key words on the PPT slides.

    Speech value 5
: His topic is good and interesting because I’m non-smoker so I can know new information through his speech. And this speech involves his own experience, so it has sincerity.
    Preparation value 4
: As I said above, maybe this speech involves his experience, so his prepared information was good. He researched some methods and offered his own experience such as medication.
    Organization value 4
: He suggested 3 methods. As professor said before ‘3’ is magic number. So his organization was good and I can follow his speech well. After speech I can remember all method he suggested.
    Opening 5
: He started his speech by showing cigarette and this makes audience know his speech and what he will say.
    Body 4
: He suggested method and explained why this method is effective to quitting smoking. It means his support materials were well. But it will be better that he uses some visual aid. Showing images about brushing teeth or chewing gum will make his speech perfect.
    Conclusion 4
: He shared his experience and said 3 methods again. Also he encouraged audience who smoke in the end. This ended his speech clear and well.
    Transitions 4
: He transfer next stage smoothly, for example, in body to conclusion, he shared his experience and agreed with quitting smoking is hard. And this was good transitions. I can follow his speech natural and smooth, it means he organized his speech very well.
